





Community Summit on Citizen Diplomacy

About the Summit
The Albuquerque Council for International Visitors (ACIV), in partnership with the University of New Mexico presented a Community Summit on Citizen Diplomacy to bring to the community a better understanding of the critical importance of citizen diplomacy and to enhance skills for personal and cultural diplomacy. The Summit promoted an understanding of diverse values and cultures, educate participants about global perspectives and further mutual understanding.
Speakers & Leadership
Harriet Fulbright, the widow of renowned Senator William Fulbright, had agreed to serve as the Honorary Chair for the Summit, but illness prevented her attendance. Ambassador Walter Cutler (retired) and President Emeritus of Meridian International Center in Washington, DC was the keynote speaker at the luncheon. Dr. Sherry Lee Mueller, President, National Council for International Visitors, conducted a workshop on citizen diplomacy. Carol Grabauskas, Deputy Director, Office of International Visitors, U.S. Department of State, spoke in a workshop. Karen Schafer, consultant to the National Council for International Visitors and ACIV volunteer, is the chair of the Summit Planning Committee.
